Kelp Forest

This one sort of came together backwards, from the end to the start. Or back to front? I saw these beads called Picasso on Etsy and knew I had to design a shawl from them. Have you seen these beads? They look like they were left out in the rain for a really long time.
Sort of a patina, distressed look. Alas, when they came in they were dark and drab, so I made my own mix.
I thought I wanted the beads all mixed throughout,,, but the shawl asked for them to be separated, go figure. My designs talk, scream, cajole, show up in dreams and whisper throughout the process. At times they have been so demanding that the pencil draft come up again and again. Once there are scraps everywhere, that's about the time that I know this idea will go through the entire process and become a design.

All that to say the beads are separated into, darks and bright's. I'm using the bright ones in the body of the shawl and the darks, up the edging and around the bottom.  And again It still screamed, this time for smaller beads for the motifs.
This is a heart shaped shawl with strips of motifs in the semi solid color. Then using the multi color we have textured/net lace and plain panels. The shawl was ready to go in October of last year. It screamed again and said, "No, no, no, early spring, first walk on the beach." Of course the shawl always wins.
Pattern released as an MKAL, which will begin April 2024.

GOODIES
Beads

Pounds and pounds and pounds of beads, really need to weigh this KAL's storage box for ya'll. Ok, TEN pounds of beads, what can I say? I'm a little, (ahem, alright, a lot) addicted to creating with beads, playing with them, stitching them onto cross stitch, embroidery, dolls, t-shirts, bags, slippers, knitting, all sorts of jewelry and hair accessories. Anything that will hold still long enough are subject to dye and or beads. "Yeah we get it and you need a meeting."
Bead Soup mixes: 60 grams of rocailles, E, 6/0 and 2/0, in a light and dark mix.

Motif Beads these are for the motifs, they are 8/0 and the spacer on bottom right is for the starfish mouths.

Stitch Markers
Metals
Two sets this time, above we have Metals in which we continue the sea theme. On the left, look close, both lobsters are put together like bead caps. There's a top and bottom to make the sea horse and fish. Speaking of, the fish is iris rainbow AB, cool right? Stock limited on both lobsters.
Clam colors vary and the small fish on the right, low stock so he'll swapped out. This set has 11 loops and 2 lobsters.

Paua
I have loved this shell for as far back as I can remember. My parents had an ashtray, back in the 60's, nuff said. We have a yarn and roving named Paua too. Set has 8 loops and 1 lobster in Iris rainbow AB.

Kelp Forest
Why Kelp? About 40 years ago I was trapped in a bed off of the coast of Southern California. The lifeguard hollered, "Calm down"! Yeah there might have been some screaming and flapling about because some unidentifiable thing was tangling around my legs. Jaws had come out just before this and I had a healthy fear of the deep. Once the lifeguards voice was heard,,, he said, "Swim on top of the bed, horizontal to the ocean floor." I'd never heard of a kelp forest and never wanted to experience one again.

Fast forward to 2023 and our kelps almost all gone. You can read the very sad story here.
